I'd like to begin this edition of Sunday Talk by giving thanks to the hosts who came before me — Al Rodgers, Newsie8200, and Sam Loomis.
Thanks.
Now that that's taken care of, I want to say one word to you... just one word* — Plastics.
*There are actually several more words (and some audio/visuals) below the fold.
As the great Joe Jackson sang:
Mother's wheelchair stays out in the hall
Why should she go out when the TV's on
Whatever moves beyond these walls
She'll know the facts when Sunday comes along
If you want to know about Iraq's liberation
If you want to know how to get some TARP
If you want to know about Obama's transition
You can see it on:
Meet The Press: First Lady Laura Bush; Afghanistan's Ambassador to the U.S. Said Jawad; Business mogul Ted Turner.
Face The Nation: Investigative journalist (The Washington Post) Bob Woodward; Editor of Newsweek International Fareed Zakaria; Writer/radio host/Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson; Investigative journalist (The New Yorker) Jane Mayer.
This Week: Pakistan's Ambassador to the U.S. Husain Haqqani; Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI); Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN).
Fox News Sunday: Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC); Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO); Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA).
Late Edition: Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ); Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA).
Conspicuously absent, once again, is Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
But, thankfully, The Daily Show provides us with a look back at the phenomenon of the Vice Presidential candidate from Wasilla, Alaska.
Now let's move on to a little game I call "What's Wrong With This Picture?"
You're probably thinking to yourself "There's nothing wrong with this picture."
But, what if I told you that this picture came from a card the White House sent to Jewish leaders inviting them to a Hanukkah party?
In case you're stumped, here's the answer.
The message reads that the couple "requests the pleasure of your company at a Hanukkah reception," written beneath an image of a Clydesdale horse hauling a Christmas fir along the snow-dappled drive to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
And, no, it is not a Hanukkah bush. A close look at the wagon reveals the message "White House Christmas Tree 2008."
In the background, the White House windows are festooned with Christmas wreaths.
And, speaking of things that are festooned...
"We had an energy bill before the United States Senate. It was festooned with Christmas tree ornaments. It had all kinds of breaks for the oil companies, I mean, billions of dollars worth. I voted against it; Senator Obama voted for it."
- John McCain (audio clip)
I'd now like to conclude this edition of Sunday Talk with a different type of "fest tune", if you will.
You're welcome.
